The United States of America cannot be seen as an entity within itself, but rather as one seething mass of different groups, each with it's own identity, each that has a distinguishing feature that separates it from all other groups the country of their fore-fathers origin, in the instance of the novel being looked at (Another Country by James Baldwin) that would be African- American. Modern American Literature is preoccupied by what separates us as human beings rather than what binds us together."
